Frugality Tip: Save over 50% on AquaJuice!

October 19, 2008

Here’s a helpful tip: are you buying Welch’s AquaJuice?  I know, I know – we all hate drinking regular juice, because it is just too sweet.  And AquaJuice does provide a healthy and delicious alternative.

Well, here’s the secret recipe that Welch’s doesn’t want you to know!

INGREDIENTS

8 oz apple, grape, or other fruit juice
8 oz water

  1. Pour all ingredients into a 16 oz glass.
  2. Stir well with a spoon.
  3. Enjoy!

Eat your heart out, Frugal in the Fruitlands.

(After the break, I get serious, and provide a crappy camera-phone photo.)

OK, I was at Hannaford yesterday, and I just had to take a photo of this:

That’s AquaJuice on the left.  It’s exactly what you fear it is: half juice, half water.

Seriously, are people actually dumb enough to buy this?

Bwahahah! Juice is an overpriced commodity because parents think they need to pump their kids full of the stuff, and that it is the only alternative to soda.

Apparently. Such is the beauty of marketing.

Seriously, though–I’ve been slipped watered-down apple (and orange) juice before, and it tastes horrible, like it’s been watered down. If people are concerned about calories, is it beyond them to swap off glasses of full-strength juice and plain water?

I recently bought the Welch’s AquaJuice apple for the money back guarentee (which made it free) but my kids really like it! Unlike 1/2 juice 1/2 water it has a lot of flavor. We still only give them a glass a day but they think its real (read full strength) juice.

Oh, is it actually flavored differently? I didn’t inspect the ingredients list in depth, so the packaging led me to believe that it was simply watered-down juice for twice the price, but if it’s actually flavored like real juice, then that might be sorta worth it. Serves me right for making fun of it! :)
