Found via a Slashdot comment: these guys claim to have discovered a way to upgrade your audio system remotely, using a specially-crafted set of sounds.

Let me repeat that:

You call them up.
You pay them SIXTY BUCKS.
They beep at you.
And magically, your stereo sounds better!

Some of you may recall a music video I found on Anime Network On Demand and proceeded to force everyone I could find to watch. It’s a song called “S.T.E.A.K.” by a J-Punk group called Peelander-Z.

Well, I stumbled upon an online copy. Now all y’alls can enjoy the wonderful, brilliant lyrical stylings and brightly-colored costumes.

(If you’re finding the first part of the song a bit repetitive, I strongly recommend fast-forwarding to about 2/3 through, when it changes gears abruptly.)

I stumbled across this article via the 37signals blog. Apparently, a graphic designer took it upon himself to redesign the (horrifically complex) New York City transit map to make it easier to read. IMO, he did a great job, geographical distortions notwithstanding. It’s a really beautiful map, and every other city I’ve seen distorts their subway map for clarity.

The coolest part: the guy who designed it is from my hometown!

(For those sadly unaware of the Lyttle Lytton contest: it’s like the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, the goal of which is to write the worst possible first sentence of a novel – but in the Lyttle Lytton contest, all entries have to be 25 words or less. Pure awesome. Also, it’s run by Adam Cadre, a really amazing writer, whose work I highly recommend.)

(For those not aware: this is the guy who claimed that the mouse would never catch on because “there is no evidence that anyone would want to use these things,” that Apple would soon be dropping Mac OS X and switching to Windows to save costs, and that Windows XP’s “System Idle” process was taking up 99% of his CPU.)

(Explanation: I work in the same building as the main offices of Akamai, Inc. They have an electronic signboard down in the lobby that shows (I assume) which company’s executives/salesdroids are visiting them today. Here’s what it said this afternoon.)
