Everybody dance now! Mar 24, 2002

OK, so I went to the Brandeis Student Senate meeting tonight in order to charter a club (the Brandeis Bemani Revolution, see the last entry for more detail). It turned out that several other clubs I am involved in (well, some more than others) were also attempting to get chartered tonight. So, here's a breakdown of how it went:

  • Brandeis Bemani Revolution - RECOGNIZED. I wrote the constitution for this one :)
  • Brandeis Francophone Club - CHARTERED. The one club tonight I wasn't at all involved with. But after the parliamentary beatdown they took last week, I was glad to see them chartered, since they are a group that really deserves a charter.
  • BranCOG (Brandeis Computer Operators Group) - CHARTERED. I've been on the mailing list for this group for awhile, but it took the group until last Thursday to actually organize a meeting. So we went from inactive to chartered club in the space of 4 days. Possibly a new record.
  • SCB (Societe Chaotique Brandesienne) - RECOGNIZED. This one is the brainchild of Danny Silverman. It's essentially a Discordian club. I'm not a Discordian, but I'm glad that Brandeis now has a Discordian club, and I agree with Discordianism enough to join SCB.
  • BSCF (Brandeis Society for Creative Fantasy) - CHARTERED. Finally. Apparently, BSCF was dechartered this year, despite being active as a club. The reason: they hadn't turned in the appropriate forms, which makes sense, considering that everyone thought that they had been dechartered for severaly years at that point. In any case, BSCF is now chartered again. Yay! Play 6x9!

So, basically, I stood up as a member of 4 out of the 5 clubs that went up for charter tonight :)BTW, for those not familiar with the Brandeis club chartering process, the only difference between a "chartered" club and a "recognized" one is that "chartered" clubs can ask for money from the Allocations Board, whereas recognized ones can't. Those clubs that were recognized and not chartered tonight had previously decided not to ask to be chartered, which was probably a good decision on the SCB's part, and a bad one on BBR's.
