To my web designer friends... Jul 23, 2007
Note: this question is not so much directed at those of you who make web sites for a living, but at people who make web sites for personal projects outside of work (even if you also make web sites for a living).
I do a fair amount of personal web design/development outside of work, and given my target audience (me and my friends) I don't particularly feel a need to test on IE, since most people I know are using Firefox or Safari anyhow. But it does remain true that 80% (or so) of the web is using Microsoft Internet Explorer, much as I might disapprove of such practices.
What do all y'all test on? Firefox? Safari? IE? Opera? Lynx? If you found out that something you were trying to do didn't work right in [some browser that you don't use yourself, but test on anyway], how much time would you spend on trying to fix it? How much wasted effort would it take for you to give up and yell "forget this, you shouldn't be using [my non-preferred browser] anyway!"
